From a young age, most us have been told to make sure to wear sunscreen in the summer to protect against sunburn and harmful UV radiation. The sun’s rays can cause damage to the skin, and over time, this can lead to discoloration, pain, and worse, such as melanoma and other forms of skin cancer. It is important to be diligent with sunscreen application in the summer when the sun is out, but what about in the other seasons?

Thus, the snow acts as a mirror and enhances the effects of the sun’s rays on the skin. This is especially true for those who partake in winter sports; after a day on the slopes, any exposed skin may feel burnt because of the way the sun’s rays bounce off of the snow at close range. Even if you’re not a winter athlete, if you live in a snowy area, it’s important to be mindful of sunburn in the snow!
When we think of sunscreen, we often think of summer, heat, and the beach. But it’s still important to take care of exposed skin in the winter months and protect it from UV radiation. Using sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher is a good way to protect against sunburn. Make sure to take care of your skin no matter what the season!
