It’s safe to say that 2020 felt like the longest year of our lives. Days stretched into weeks, and it felt like a decade had passed before new year’s eve finally came. With new years come those pesky new year’s resolutions; while you might end up keeping some, most get forgotten soon after the calendar changes. But this year can be different! Here are our tips to make the most of the new year!


Setting a goal requires a specific target; that way, you’ll always be able to measure your progress against your specific benchmark. For example, instead of saying “I’ll exercise more this year,” try “I’ll exercise three days per week every week for twenty minutes each.” That way, you’ll have a clear answer as to whether or not you’re on track.


As tempting as it can be to swing for the fences, setting goals that are lofty and beyond the realm of what can realistically be accomplished can be deflating. If you’re not a runner, don’t set a goal of running a marathon; instead, try running five miles a week, and increase from there. If you want to read more, start with reading the first book before worrying about any others. Once you accomplish your first goal, you’re more likely to hit the next one.


No matter what, the key to accomplishing your goals is honesty with yourself! If you haven’t hit the mark, it’s best to reflect on it, figure out what went wrong, and go from there rather than trying to stretch the truth. Be honest with yourself, and you’ll reap the rewards!
